Whisky a go go from Energy Assets

The Energy Assets Siteworks team has just concluded its largest metering project with a station replacement and capacity upgrade for a distillery in Fife

Energy Assets was asked by a distillery to assess their current meter installation as they had a need for increased gas consumption. It became apparent that the current installation was not capable of delivering this increase; however, a service capability check revealed that the inlet service was capable of supplying sufficient gas.

The customer also required an elevated outlet pressure due to the length of his outlet pipe-work; the appliances being approximately 350m from the meter installation. The nature of the downstream pipework also necessitated the need to the higher out pressure.

The existing 200mm Medium Pressure turbine installation required replacement by a 250mm turbine. Due to the process load being served by the meter, the engineering decision was to provide twin pressure reduction streams and the meter was fitted with a by-pass at the customer’s request to ensure continuity of supply under maintenance.

Energy Assets as part of their client engagement carried out a design and build study to ensure that the resultant meter module would physically fit inside the main compound space. The module design has an overall length of 10.3m and a width of 2.3m and for ease of installation the streams were broken in to four individual skids and then joined together on site.

The removal, installation and commissioning of the pressure reduction and metering station module took 2 weeks to complete from delivery to site.
