Energy Assets make a healthy impact

Siteworks- the complete gas infrastructure and metering provider has completed a new gas supply for Bronglais hospital in Wales.

The Siteworks team took just 6 weeks to complete a project at Bronglais General Hospital in Aberystwyth Wales. The project was to renew their oil fired heating system with a new gas version as part of their CRC plans.

EA supplied a medium pressure gas main, a 23” metering rig, kiosk and outlet pipework. In total 3 meters have been supplied for the hospital, student nurse and doctors' accommodation block and mortuary.

Bronglais General Hospital is located in Aberystwyth with approximately 200 inpatient beds.  It is the only provider of acute hospital care within rural Mid Wales, including West and North Powys and South Gwynedd. The hospital's functions combine the roles of a District General Hospital and a Local General Hospital.

The client requested a PID of 12268kwh. Energy Assets took on the role as Principle Project  co-ordinator, having the technical knowledge and project management skills to overcome any potential issues which would be encountered.   Due to the Engineering complexity and timescales associated with the project, it was essential that clear defined targets and objectives were set for everyone involved.

Siteworks customer centric approachAfter careful design and review with the client's consultant, it was established that an outlet pressure of 100mbar would be required to ensure sufficient pressure within the customer’s outlet system. This necessitated a connection to a Medium Pressure main. The design review also identified the requirement for a twin stream module and the customer elected to forgo a by-pass installation. The Consultant also required Energy Assets to provide outlet pipework to the boiler house as part of the installation.

Once the scope of works had been clarified, Energy Assets engaged their wide range of skilled service partners to facilitate a solution that would meet all the client’s needs. Throughout this process there were regular update meetings to ensure clarity and focus to ensure there was no “creep” on cost and timelines.

The design required the installation of 750 metres of 250mm diameter Medium Pressure main laid in the verge of the A487 – the Tallybont to Aberystwyth Road, the installation of a 5m x 3m kiosk and 180mm diameter outlet pipework.

Once all parties were happy with the agreed solution, Energy Assets coordinated meetings with the relevant authorities, network owners and suppliers at the site and an installation program was developed.  The meter module had a build programme of 16 weeks but due to Energy Assets' position within the market place we were able to influence and improve on these timescales enabling certainty of completion on the agreed dates.

Once mobilisation was underway, regular progress meetings were held and the client had valued communications throughout, ensuring progress was tracked and any potential changes to agreed timelines were acted upon.

Due to successful project management and delivery, the project was completed 4 weeks ahead of schedule, even allowing for a compulsory works embargo on the highways during the bank holiday periods, and in line with the agreed costs.
