Director of Technology and Product Development

Alan has worked in UK, USA and many parts of the world designing and developing high tech products for metering and communications. He originally graduated with a Degree in Electronics Engineering and for a significant period worked as an engineer specialising in the design of high volume electronic products.  He has over this time secured patents in a number of areas relating to metering and communications.  Although now in more of a management role he is very active in the design and development of products and a mentor to his team.

 Alan joined Energy Assets as Director of Product Development and Technology in 2012, when EA purchased Gazprom Global Energy Solutions. Within EA he has been responsible for the design and commercialisation of smart gas data loggers, innovative electricity metering solutions for community energy and Smart Grid technology for the control of street lighting and management of loads for the purpose of demand response.

Prior to joining EA he was the head of technology within Gazprom and responsible for developing a range of smart metering solutions for deployment in the UK, Asia and ex-Russian Federation.

In 2004 , Alan was one of the management team responsible for TruRead, a start-up company specialising in offering AMR services to large gas suppliers and energy brokers.  The company was sold to Gazprom in 2010 and became the core of Gazprom’s AMR and smart metering offering.

Before becoming involved in the Gas industry, he was the MD of Iskraemeco UK, Iskraemeco is a world-class supplier of electricity metering products, systems and services and trades in over 90 countries worldwide. During this time Iskraemeco developed a range of commercial smart meters aimed at the commercial and SME busiensses.

During 1998 to 2004, Alan was VP of Product Development for BCN Data Systems. This was a business who’s prime business and focus was in provision of domestic AMR to British Gas. The company was a JV owned by Amey (UK) and Bechtel Enterprises (USA). BCN deployed Europe’s largest radio based AMR in a project with British Gas and installed over 12 million domestic, industrial and commercial installations in the USA.

Before joining BCN, Alan worked for ABB (now Elster) Metering Systems, and as Strategic Business Development Manager, as part of the management team member with joint responsibility for running the UK company and for business development and marketing activity within Europe and the UK.
