Mercy, aged 24, is the daughter of Vanessa Moorhouse, who works as a Contracts Administrator at the company’s Sheffield Office, and she is following her dream of playing football at the highest possible level, having developed a passion for the sport at the age of six.
Her skill has opened up all sort of opportunities - at 18 she won a scholarship to play for Bellevue University in Nebraska, where she studied for an undergraduate degree in psychology for four years.
She returned to the UK in October 2015 and was offered a scholarship by Durham University to study for a Master’s Degree in Business Management and play for the University football team.
Mark Donnelly, Media & Marketing Officer for Durham WFC, describes Mercy as a very talented, versatile player, who enjoys playing in the No.9 shirt, but prefers to play on either wing. She is likely to be playing for the club for the next 18 months.
Mercy’s longer term ambition, once she has completed her Master’s Degree, is to play football competitively and to make the most of any opportunities that arise.
She is very appreciative of the support she has received from her family in developing her sporting career, as her mum Vanessa explains:
“My father was interested in football and played a little, but no-one in the family has ever taken the game as seriously as Mercy; she eats and sleeps football! We love going to see her play, wherever the game might be and whatever the weather.”
