Robbie Lamb – Project Supervisor

I’m Robbie Lamb and I’m a Project Supervisor for Energy Asset Utilities Scotland.

The main aspect of my role is to ensure that all of our utilities are installed on site on time, but most importantly, that they are installed safely and correctly.

I look after sites based in Fife and Edinburgh, both of which are in Scotland. I organise the delivery of gas, water and electricity on site, whilst working with our clients to ensure these are in the ground safely and on time for our client habitation dates.

What my day looks like

I work on a week-to-week basis and the work is determined by what sites request installation for that week and the week ahead.

First and foremost I need to be organised and have a good understanding what I am required to do on a day to day basis. I work in a team of Supervisors with two project managers in but I tend to be out on my own most of the week. My ability for self-organisation is vital in my role.

Punctuality is key within my role as time is limited, especially when having to travel from site to site on a daily basis. By keeping myself and my projects well organised I can keep on top of demanding workloads and keep customers happy and in the loop easily. There’s no better feeling than when a job is running smoothly and too plan.

Whilst every day is different it’s also challenging, which is an aspect of my role that I really enjoy. I’m the type of person who always needs projects on the go, which keeps me focused and motivated throughout the day, so my role is perfect for me.

My Growth

Throughout my time at Energy Assets I feel like I have really matured as a person, especially since taking on the role of Project Supervisor. I have always been motivated to succeed throughout my career and the opportunity for growth within Energy Assets was a big factor in choosing Energy Assets as my employer.

I was recently put on an apprenticeship course by Energy Assets to enhance my knowledge within the industry and gain a CSCS Gold card. The course was a Modern Apprenticeship SVQ in Construction Site Supervision, which I have now completed.

The course content itself was an excellent standard and over the 8 courses that were part of the Apprenticeship there were aspects within each that have been beneficial to my growth within my role. I have also found myself benefiting from discussions with the other members on the course as there was a vast array of personnel with different job roles so it was good to hear everyone’s opinions and advice on how different situations would be handled.

I’m incredibly proud of being recognised for, and trusted in, my abilities and being offered a Project Supervisor position at the age I am. I would like to continue to progress within Energy Assets and move up within the company throughout my employment.

My advice

There are many challenges within my role, and in order for me to be able to handle them I need to remain calm, composed and take responsibility for my actions. From time to time I may also need to ask more experienced individuals for advice, which I have no qualms about doing. I see these times as opportunities to learn.

The can be challenging times throughout the process, and everyone is trying to work to tight deadlines, so my advice would be to make sure that you are prepared for this. Being able to remain calm and composed, are key skills to being able to make decisions on the spot and satisfactory.

When I first started my career at Energy Assets I never saw myself in the position I am currently in. Energy Assets has nurtured my talents and actively encouraged my growth and development and empowered me to be the very best I can be.
